Job Requirements

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in culinary arts or related field
  • Must obtain current Food Handler Permit within 15 days of start date
  • Must possess or be able to obtain Missouri Class E Driver's License within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to work with large groups of residents/customers
  • Intermediate level knowledge of cash handling and register operation
  • Awareness of departmental cost control
  • Basic computer skills in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work irregular hours
  • Ability to communicate in simple sentences
  • Ability to read and interpret documents
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic
  • Ability to perform tasting and smelling
  • Ability to carry out written or oral instructions
  • Ability to handle physical demands including lifting up to 55 lbs
  • Comfortable working in kitchen and restaurant environment with exposure to heat, cold, steam, sharp objects, and infectious diseases
  • Willingness to assist other departments in emergency situations

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in culinary arts or related field
  • Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Ability to work with a large group of residents/customers
  • Intermediate knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation
  • Awareness of cost control responsibilities within the department
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to work irregular hours
  • Ability to speak in simple sentences
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and multiply and divide with 10s and 100s
  • Ability to perform tasting and/or smelling
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions

Job Duties

  • Plan and direct the function of the food production department
  • Ensure quality of food meets John Knox Village and state regulations
  • Schedule staff and supervise the work of others
  • Adhere to all safety regulations and requirements
  • Handle stress well and maintain positive workplace relationships
  • Maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct
  • Complete training hours as required by policy
