Job Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • ability to cook, taste, and smell food accurately
  • ability to perform mathematical calculations related to cooking instructions and servings
  • physical ability to perform duties involving walking, standing, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, squatting 75 to 100 percent of the time
  • ability to carry light objects under 25 pounds
  • willingness to work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and cold

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • three years of experience planning, purchasing, and cooking meals for large groups
  • prior supervisory experience
  • strong knowledge of health and safety regulations
  • effective communication skills in English
  • ability to read and comprehend manuals and instructions
  • ability to organize and maintain files

Job Duties

  • Supervises day-to-day kitchen operations including preparation, cooking, and presentation of meals
  • ensures meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner
  • supervises cleaning of kitchen facilities and equipment
  • monitors and manages inventory of kitchen supplies and food
  • plans menus and purchases necessary food and supplies
  • supervises and participates in food service activities such as carving, plating, and serving
  • trains and evaluates kitchen staff and volunteers
