Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • associates degree or relevant culinary experience
  • current Food Handler Permit obtained within 15 days of start date
  • possession or ability to obtain Missouri Class E Driver’s License within 90 days
  • ability to work irregular hours
  • ability to communicate in simple sentences
  • physical ability to lift up to 55 lbs and perform frequent bending, crouching, and walking
  • willingness to work in a kitchen and restaurant environment exposed to heat, cold, and sharp objects
  • ability to follow safety and operational procedures
  • successful completion of background and health screening

Job Qualifications

  • Associates degree (AA) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in Culinary Arts or related field
  • equivalent experience considered in lieu of degree
  • current Food Handler Permit obtained within 15 days of start date
  • Missouri Class E Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 90 days
  • ability to work with a large group of residents/customers
  • intermediate knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation
  • awareness of cost control in the department
  • basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • ability to work irregular hours
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to read and interpret safety rules and manuals
  • ability to write reports and correspondence
  • basic arithmetic skills
  • ability to perform tasting and smelling
  • ability to follow detailed instructions
  • supportive of teamwork and stress management

Job Duties

  • Plan and direct the function of the food production department
  • ensure quality of food served meets John Knox Village and state regulations
  • schedule staff and supervise the work of others
  • adhere to all safety regulations and requirements
  • handle stress well and maintain positive relationships with coworkers and customers
  • maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct
  • support the Village's mission and hospitality expectations
