Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Up to one month related experience, training, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence
- Basic mathematical ability including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and interpretation of bar graphs
- Ability to apply common sense to follow written or oral instructions
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 25 pounds frequently and exert up to 60 pounds occasionally
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, squat, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, grasp, feel, taste, smell, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms as needed
- Ability to work under varying indoor and outdoor conditions including exposure to heat, cold, noise, wet/humid environments, and mechanical hazards
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Knowledge of food preparation and safety standards
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment with proper certification
- Basic math and reading skills
- Effective communication abilities
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and standardized recipes
- Experience with food service in an institutional setting preferred
- Familiarity with HACCP protocols and food safety regulations
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Customer service orientation and hospitality skills
Job Duties
- Assist with the set-up of serving lines daily and ensure all food is held at the required temperature
- Assist in the preparation of foods according to menu plans and Opaa! recipes
- Operate slicers, mixers, grinders, and other kitchen equipment with proper certification
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of work areas and kitchen equipment
- Clean kitchen and cafeteria areas including all dishes and equipment
- Manage inventory stock using First In-First Out (FIFO) procedures
- Clean, monitor, and maintain dishwashing equipment and chemical usage
- Requisition food and supplies through the Kitchen Manager
- Prepare baked goods as required and present them appealingly
- Batch cook to maintain quality and good food presentation
- Set up serving lines ensuring proper food temperatures and restock as needed
- Serve items with proper portions and hospitality
- Keep serving lines stocked with food items, napkins, silverware, and dishes
- Prepare foods in strict compliance with menu plans and standardized recipes
- Recognize reimbursable meals and follow HHFKA and CACFP meal patterns
- Maintain daily production records and food safety logs
- Adhere to HACCP food safety procedures and Opaa!'s safety rules
- Report unsafe conditions and participate in safety incentives
- Attend required meetings and complete continuing education
- Handle customer monies, operate cash registers or POS systems
- Complete tray counts and meal reconciliation paperwork daily
- Submit accurate work time records and notify supervisors of shift absences
- Perform other duties as assigned
