Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • Two or more years experience in food service including cooking, production, and inventory
  • Minimum one year in a supervisory role
  • Current SERVSafe Kitchen Manager's Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to communicate effectively with personnel, students, and parents
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant software
  • Ability to lift and move up to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand and walk for entire shift
  • Ability to reach, balance, stoop, kneel, twist, and bend frequently
  • Willingness to undergo criminal background check
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • Ability to understand and follow food safety and preparation instructions

Job Qualifications

  • High School diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • Two or more years experience in school food service or any food service including cooking, production, and inventory, with at least one year in supervisory role
  • Current SERVSafe Kitchen Manager's Certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire
  • Ability to understand food preparation and safety instructions
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures
  • Capable of operating small and large kitchen equipment and tools
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of personnel, students, and parents
  • Ability to motivate, delegate, and lead a team
  • Ability to read, analyze, and apply understanding of instructions in written or oral English
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Familiarity with software such as POS and scheduling tools
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations and basic finance understanding

Job Duties

  • Oversee day-to-day operations within the kitchen adhering to Child Nutrition Program guidelines
  • Supervise, manage, and cross train kitchen staff
  • Produce work schedules and manage employee absences
  • Provide formal, timely, and appropriate feedback on individual work performance and growth opportunities
  • Ensure storage of all food and supplies in the kitchen
  • Ensure adherence to State Safety and Sanitation guidelines
  • Monitor working condition of kitchen equipment
  • Report work-related injuries to Risk Management in a timely manner
  • Document required monthly safety training with kitchen staff
  • Ensure staff adhere to all standardized recipes
  • Ensure high standard of food quality through continual monitoring during production and service
  • Ensure all methods of counting and claiming are compliant and accurate
  • Create welcoming and friendly environment in cafeteria, kitchen, and service points
  • Follow best practices for presenting menus and promoting participation
  • Manage production, order, and inventory
  • Perform data entry of planned production and actual amount served in Titan Menu Daily
  • Report recipe or menu errors to Director of Menus
  • Plan food production in system based on completed production records
  • Monitor portion control to ensure compliance with USDA/TDA meal patterns
  • Monitor inventory levels, weekly and physical inventory, and maintain perpetual inventory
  • Place accurate orders for production
  • Document gas credit card reconciliations and submit timely reports
  • Monitor food production and waste
  • Perform end of day reconciliation with cashiers including cash drawer and a la carte sales
  • Adhere to standard cash handling processes
  • Oversee student and staff lunch account balances
  • Coordinate meals for field trips and testing with Operations Directors
  • Attend required trainings
  • Assist with other kitchen tasks as needed including delivering, cooking, and cleaning
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships and communication with Uplift staff and parents
  • Perform other duties as assigned by FOM/Director
