Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • minimum 1 year previous experience with large quantity food preparation
  • minimum 1 year previous supervisory experience
  • completion of State, Department of Education, School Food Service Statewide Training Program or equivalent specified courses
  • ability to problem solve under stressful situations
  • good organization and math skills
  • ability to prepare food according to standardized recipes
  • ability to remember and compute standard food measurements

Job Duties

  • Communicates, collaborates, and cooperates with colleagues, supervisors, and students
  • supervise entire kitchen staff, answer questions, schedule staff, and delegate tasks
  • oversee all food production and ensure smooth workflow daily for both lunch and breakfast
  • maintain high standards of sanitation and safety for kitchen staff and in food preparation including accurate food temperature recording and serving, and proper temperatures for food storage units
  • determine quantities of food to be prepared each day
  • complete all book work, money counts, and deposits daily using various computer programs
  • prepare and place food orders
  • train and cross-train staff
  • understand and ensure compliance with USDA Child Nutrition guidelines
  • check and approve all time cards for secondary staff
  • receive and stock all food and supplies and rotate on a FIFO basis
  • work as effectively and efficiently as possible
  • confer with the Director of Nutrition Services on problems in food preparation, personnel, equipment breakdown, ordering, etc
  • collaborate with the Director of Nutrition Services in developing new preparation and service methods, time and motion economics, and future equipment needs
  • participate in annual employee workshops
  • complete additional duties as assigned
  • participate in all mandatory training as required by the district
