Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience
  • Serve Safe certification
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, squat, climb, balance, kneel, crawl, push, pull, grasp, feel, taste, smell, talk, hear, and reach with hands and arms frequently
  • Ability to exert over 60 pounds of force occasionally
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or move objects up to 25 pounds frequently
  • Ability to distinguish colors and maintain concentrated attention and depth perception
  • Ability to work both inside and outside in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to work around moving mechanical parts, wet, humid, hot, cold, and noisy environments
  • Ability to comply with state and local health and safety regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or relevant experience
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
  • Ability to write simple correspondence
  • Effective presentation skills in one-on-one and small group settings
  • Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and interpretation of bar graphs
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to execute detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions
  • Ability to handle problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Proficiency with kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, steamers/kettles, mixers, ovens, stoves, fryers, slicers, thermometers, and gauges
  • Experience using meal counting software and standard office equipment
  • Current Serve Safe certification
  • Additional certifications may vary by state

Job Duties

  • Monitor food and food preparation to maintain quality standards for preparation, presentation, and sanitation
  • Promote customer service by investigating and resolving food quality and service complaints
  • Coordinate the preparation and daily transportation of meals going to all satellite buildings, where applicable
  • Conduct daily safety and production meetings with kitchen staff
  • Promote Opaa!'s core values and report concerns to the Director of Nutrition Services (DNS) immediately
  • Supervise kitchen staff in all production areas and delegate workflow
  • Train, cross-train, and certify all kitchen job stations
  • Ensure cleanliness and organization of kitchen and storage areas
  • Maintain compliance with Opaa! recipes, menu plans, and Timekeeping policy
  • Submit all hours worked by clocking in and out or editing time sheets
  • Maintain compliance with all HACCP processes and procedures
  • Ensure adherence to HHFKA and CACFP meal patterns
  • Follow all safety regulations and report unsafe conditions and incidents promptly
  • Coordinate and submit food and supply orders
  • Complete accurate daily production records
  • Oversee commercial and commodity inventory counts and ensure FIFO standards in storage
  • Verify product receipt and resolve invoice discrepancies
  • Enter participation counts daily
  • Maintain communication with building principal and conduct weekly updates
  • Organize and utilize the production board during service
  • Attend weekly Kitchen Manager meetings with DNS
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by Opaa! Food Management
