Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • related experience in food preparation and service
  • associate degree in culinary arts preferred
  • valid Kentucky driver license with satisfactory driving record
  • ability to be CPR/First Aid certified within 30 days of employment
  • successful completion of criminal background check
  • successful completion of sex offender registry check
  • knowledge of Health Department and USDA regulations
  • ability to operate within budget
  • ability to recruit, hire, train, motivate and evaluate staff
  • adherence to agency personnel policies and procedures

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • related experience in food preparation and service
  • associate degree in culinary arts preferred
  • experience in supervising kitchen staff
  • knowledge of food safety and nutritional regulations
  • ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and volunteers
  • ability to manage budgets and inventory
  • proficiency in record keeping
  • ability to recruit, train, and motivate employees
  • CPR/First Aid certification upon employment

Job Duties

  • Preparing nutritional menus and meals for Unity House
  • control inventory and budget
  • order all food and non-food supplies for the kitchen
  • ensure food storage complies with state, federal and/or local regulations
  • monitor climate control on all refrigerated and/or freezer units
  • maintain food service standards for the program
  • ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and cafeteria areas
  • coordinate and assist with all special events
  • supervise performance of work activities by cooking staff, interns and clients
  • maintain accurate and up-to-date records of purchase and distribution
  • hire, train, motivate, evaluate and direct staff with the assistance of the Program Manager
  • complete required paperwork and all internal/external reports
  • develop relationships with food service employers to assist in client job placement
  • facilitate nutritional life skills class with clients
  • perform other duties as assigned
  • maintain current CPR and First Aid certification
  • ensure staff/clients have sufficient supplies
  • address incidents of low performance among kitchen staff per agency policy
