Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (g.e.d.)
  • Completion of Certified Professional Food Handlers Program
  • Two to three years culinary or institutional food service experience
  • CPR certification
  • First aid certification
  • Annual tuberculosis test
  • Successful pre-employment drug testing and criminal records checks
  • Dependability
  • Ability to follow directions and work cooperatively with others
  • Ability to provide minimal levels of supervision
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion
  • Physical ability to stand walk bend and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment safely
  • Understanding of federal state and local confidentiality rules
  • Ability to work under stressful and emotionally charged situations
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor
  • Good attendance record
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Job Qualifications

  • Knowledge of commercial food equipment appliances and tools
  • Knowledge of food preparation storage and handling techniques
  • Ability to apportion food supplies based on estimates of future needs
  • Ability to cook foodstuffs according to menu dietary or nutritional restrictions
  • Ability to keep hand and arm steady while manipulating objects
  • Ability to concentrate on tasks without distraction
  • Ability to manage time effectively
  • Familiarity with professional ethics consumer rights and confidentiality
  • Knowledge of WestCare mission goals and values
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with consumers coworkers and partners
  • Demonstrates respect for individual values when interacting

Job Duties

  • Schedule and receive food and beverage deliveries checking delivery contents to verify product quality and quantity
  • Prepare and serve meals on designated hot food days
  • Monitor and maintain food pantry and prepare food pantry bags for distribution to program participants
  • Maintain food and equipment inventories and keep inventory records
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the kitchen pantry and general facility areas
  • Plan menus based on anticipated number of guests nutritional value palatability popularity and costs
  • Review work procedures and operational problems to determine ways to improve service performance and safety
  • Keep records required by government agencies regarding sanitation and food subsidies
  • Ensure economical use of food and timely preparation
  • Monitor compliance with health and fire regulations regarding food preparation serving and building maintenance
  • Provide role modeling in communication and interaction with consumers and peers
  • Complete all orientation and mandated training activities including e-learning courses
  • Embrace and embody the mission vision guiding principles clinical vision and goals of WestCare Foundation
  • Perform any other duties as assigned
