Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years cooking experience
  • Experience in operating a commercial kitchen
  • Current Serv Safe certification
  • Ability to supervise and manage kitchen staff
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills
  • Ability to maintain sanitary and safe kitchen conditions
  • Must be able to participate in on-call rotations
  • Ability to use Google Workspace applications
  • Ability to lift 10-20 pounds and stand or sit for long periods
  • Annual TB test required

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of cooking experience
  • Experience operating in a commercial kitchen
  • Maintained Serv Safe certification
  • Kitchen management experience preferred

Job Duties

  • Ensure the preparation and service of nutritious, well-balanced meals for each mealtime in accordance with federal and state nutritional guidelines
  • Supervise full-time, part-time, and on-call kitchen staff
  • Provide hands-on training and ongoing guidance to all kitchen staff
  • Monitor kitchen supplies and maintain accurate inventories, including perishable items and USDA commodities, while operating within the established budget
  • Manage food budget and place orders
  • Plan for additional food needs during hypothermia season
  • Ensure regular cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen and equipment to uphold sanitary food preparation conditions and comply with health department regulations
  • Coordinate the acceptance and pickup of community food donations
  • Accurately document donations and prepare reports for the Community Coordinator
  • Collaborate with the Director to regularly review and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for kitchen operations
  • Monitor and assist kitchen volunteers
  • Attend Shelter House staff meetings and trainings as required
  • Utilize Google Workspace applications as part of daily work responsibilities
  • Model a caring, respectful, and supportive attitude toward residents while enforcing resident guidelines and shelter procedures
  • Serve in an on-call capacity to cover kitchen needs
  • Develop and implement the inclement weather plan for kitchen staff operations
  • Demonstrate Shelter House core values of Collaboration, Accountability, Respect, and Empowerment
  • Perform other duties as assigned
