Job Requirements
- Knowledge equivalent to four-year college degree in relevant fields
- One to three years of related banquet/catering service experience
- Understanding of food sanitation, safety and beverage service regulations
- Valid chauffeur or commercial driver’s license with endorsements and medical certificate required by first day
- Good driving record with motor vehicle check
- Ability to work on-site during university closures as designated
- Flexible scheduling according to event and operational needs
Job Qualifications
- Four-year college degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management or General Business or equivalent
- One to three years of progressively responsible experience in banquet/catering service including meal service techniques and protocol
- Knowledge of special events and banquet services
- Understanding of food sanitation and safety procedures
- Knowledge of alcoholic beverage service and Michigan state regulations
- Skills in food and beverage preparation and presentation
- Experience with cost control and supervision
- Ability in menu planning
- Possession of a valid chauffeur or commercial driver’s license with applicable endorsements
- Good driving record
- Previous experience managing events in hotel or catering settings preferred
- Experience operating a single unit motor vehicle
- Experience driving a box truck preferred
Job Duties
- Manage and coordinate events for Kellogg Center and other campus locations including MSU athletic venues
- Oversee food service and setup duties for all events ensuring high quality service
- Prepare bills for events accurately
- Plan, develop and implement training programs for event staff
- Instruct and assist event staff in meal, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage service and proper work methods
- Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure proper timing and smooth event execution
- Manage hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluation of part-time event team members
- Manage food and beverage supplies, equipment, and labor cost controlling
- Provide analysis and recommendations for departmental strategic planning
- Assist with special projects
