Job Requirements

  • Completion of a four-year college degree or equivalent experience
  • One to three years of related banquet/catering service experience
  • Knowledge of meal service, food safety, alcohol service regulations
  • Ability to prepare and present food and beverages
  • Experience with cost control and supervision
  • Valid chauffeur or commercial driver's license with applicable endorsements
  • Good driving record
  • Availability to work variable hours including during university closures
  • Ability to perform physical demands including lifting over 75 lbs

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Hotel, Restaurant, and Institutional Management or General Business or equivalent experience
  • One to three years experience in banquet/catering service
  • Knowledge of meal service techniques and protocols
  • Familiarity with food sanitation and safety procedures
  • Understanding of alcoholic beverage service regulations in Michigan
  • Experience in food and beverage preparation and presentation
  • Proven skills in cost control and supervision
  • Ability to plan menus
  • Valid Michigan chauffer or commercial driver’s license

Job Duties

  • Manage and coordinate events at Kellogg Center and campus locations including MSU athletic venues
  • Oversee food service and event setup to ensure quality guest service
  • Prepare billing and manage event budgets
  • Develop and implement training programs for event staff
  • Instruct and assist staff in meal and beverage service and proper work procedures
  • Collaborate with kitchen staff for event timing and execution
  • Hire, train, schedule, and evaluate part-time team members
  • Manage supplies, equipment, and labor costs
  • Provide analysis and recommendations for strategic planning
  • Assist with special projects
