Job Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • at least 21 years of age
  • good moral character
  • dependable transportation
  • telephone or cell phone
  • proficiency in English
  • valid Texas driver’s license
  • proof of vehicle insurance
  • ability to maintain certifications in non-violent restraint, first aid, and CPR
  • ability to control violent behavior non-violently
  • ability to perform physical activities such as standing, walking, lifting, bending, crouching, and kneeling
  • ability to work scheduled shifts
  • regular and consistent attendance
  • ability to use computers and write reports
  • adherence to policies and standards

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • at least 21 years of age
  • good moral character
  • knowledge of BCJJC policy and procedures manual and TJJD standards
  • proficiency in English for communication and report writing
  • effective oral and written communication skills
  • ability to establish and maintain working relationships
  • experience in direct child care or aggressive youth care is a plus
  • valid Texas driver’s license and vehicle insurance
  • ability to maintain non-violent restraint, first aid, and CPR certifications

Job Duties

  • Directs and supervises juveniles on their behavior and attitudes
  • handles all aspects of admitting juveniles including intake process, pat downs, strip searches, and paperwork
  • supervises all juvenile activities including serving meals, cleaning, indoor and outdoor activities
  • directs residents in therapeutic programming
  • receives and screens youth from juvenile court and law enforcement
  • prevents escapes by managing manipulative, aggressive, or violent behavior
  • administers medication and completes proper documentation
  • completes daily reports and documents youth behavior and progress
  • communicates with internal and external stakeholders
  • adheres to juvenile services policies, procedures and TJJD standards
  • works assigned shifts and maintains scheduled attendance
  • works as part of the detention team
  • maintains training and certification in accordance with standards
