Job Requirements
- College diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years related work or relevant military experience
- Valid import and export licenses knowledge
- Minimum 1 year experience filing AES
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Ability to work more than 40 hours per week when necessary
- Ability to interact verbally and in writing with employees and stakeholders
- Ability to remain stationary for 80 percent of the workday
- Visual acuity to operate a computer and office equipment
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
Job Qualifications
- College diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years related work experience or relevant military experience
- Experience with import and export licenses and regulations
- At least 1 year experience filing AES
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Knowledge of ERP systems such as Epicor or Prophet 21
- Familiarity with UPS WorldShip and FedEx Ship Manager
- Prior experience as a shipper or exporter of record
- Understanding of export control, transportation, warehousing, and freight forwarding is a plus
- Advanced degree preferred but not required
Job Duties
- Coordinate the logistics of shipping goods, including selecting the appropriate transport methods (ocean, air, road) for both import and export shipments
- Identify and vet potential carrier and forwarder partners
- Maintain relationships with existing carriers, forwarders and customs brokers
- Track and manage shipments, ensuring delivery deadlines are met and resolving any shipping issues
- Manage claims related to shipping
- Negotiate shipping rates with carriers and forwarders
- Provide guidance and assistance in classifying goods for import using the Harmonized Tariff System (HS) codes
- Assist in classifying goods for export using Schedule B codes
- Ensure correct classification for tariff, customs and compliance
- Work with customs brokers to resolve classification issues
- Prepare and transmit export documentation including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin
- Maintain import and export licenses
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for import/export compliance
- Provide input to process and procedure improvements in shipping operations
- Prepare and oversee preparation of shipping documents such as airway bills, bills of lading, shipping labels
- Communicate shipment routing instructions to shipping team, customers and forwarders
- Provide timely updates on shipment status and delivery times
- Communicate professionally with internal stakeholders such as Customer Service, Sales, Project Management, Supply Chain, and Warehouse
- Communicate professionally with external stakeholders including customers, vendors, and carriers
- Troubleshoot issues related to delayed shipments, damaged goods, or misclassification
- Collaborate with Supply Chain team to manage import transportation
- Perform rate shopping and negotiation
- Conduct landed cost calculations and communicate internally to receiving teams
- Arrange shipments and ensure correct documentation for suppliers
- Schedule shipments and coordinate freight pickups
- Establish KPIs and prepare reports on shipping performance
- Utilize business systems including ERP software for logistics analysis
- Maintain accurate records of shipments and logistics activities
- Analyze trends and suggest improvements to optimize shipping costs and efficiency
