Job Description

The Jefferson County Sheriff Detentions Division is a critical component of the law enforcement infrastructure, dedicated to maintaining safety, security, and order within the county's detention facilities. This division is tasked with the supervision and management of inmates, ensuring their compliance with facility rules and regulations while also facilitating various operational programs that aid in their rehabilitation and smooth facility management. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of relevant work experience
  • Ability to supervise and train inmates
  • Knowledge of safety protocols and sanitation standards
  • Ability to manage inventory and perform administrative tasks
  • Capacity to work in a correctional environment with potential inmate contact hazards
  • Compliance with drug-free workplace policies

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of work experience
  • Preferred one year of supervisory experience
  • Preferred experience in commercial or industrial laundry operations, landscape maintenance, and/or custodial service work
  • Ability to provide leadership and resolve conflicts
  • Strong organizational and communication skills

Job Duties

  • Plan, assign, direct, supervise and coordinate inmate worker tasks, assignments, and schedules
  • Evaluate inmate workers performance, necessary training and the final work product
  • Supervise and direct inmate worker crews engaged in work assignments inside and outside the Sheriff complex including community projects
  • Provide leadership by resolving disputes, issuing safety equipment and clothing, and conducting informal counseling
  • Provide remedial and on-the-job training to inmate workers, document training and work performance
  • Research and purchase cost-effective products and supplies
  • Maintain statistical data, update computer reports, respond to communications, and ensure compliance with sanitation and safety standards
  • Attend meetings, training seminars, and vendor meetings
  • Perform other duties as assigned
