Job Description

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation and preservation of America's natural and cultural heritage. With a strong focus on youth education and workforce development, SCA provides opportunities for young people and veterans to engage in meaningful, hands-on conservation projects across the United States. Job Requirements

  • Must be between ages 16 and 30 inclusive or veterans age 35 or younger
  • must be a US citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien
  • SCA and National Park Service background checks required
  • ability to work outdoors in varying temperatures
  • physical capability to perform hands-on construction work

Job Qualifications

  • Driver's license
  • experience working outside and with hands
  • experience in construction trades
  • experience working on teams
  • exposure to or degree related to history, archaeology, or historic preservation

Job Duties

  • Repair portions of 17th and 18th century adobe and stone structures
  • make new adobe bricks
  • mix and apply mud mortar and plaster
  • complete mud capping of structures to protect them from the elements
  • perform mud chinking of historic wood log cabins
  • learn adobe wall construction techniques
  • assist with historic preservation documentation
