Job Description

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers operates the Willamette Valley Project (WVP), a comprehensive water resource and environmental stewardship initiative spanning approximately 50,000 acres in the Willamette, McKenzie, and Santiam watersheds. This project includes the management and operation of 13 dams as well as the preservation of natural and cultural resources and recreational opportunities within the surrounding lands. Job Requirements

  • ability to work outdoors in remote settings and inclement weather
  • willingness and ability to work a 40-hour work week with shifts ranging from 8-10 hours
  • ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs
  • ability to navigate by maps, aerial photos, compass, and GPS
  • attention to detail
  • positive attitude
  • willingness to cross-train with other departments
  • ability to bring personal computer to office
  • valid driver’s license and ability to report on time to the USACE Fern Ridge Lake office

Job Qualifications

  • familiarity with anthropology, archaeology, cultural resources management, archival or museum studies, architectural history, or related fields
  • effective written and verbal communication skills
  • ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • interest in cultural and natural resources conservation
  • knowledge of common spreadsheet and word processing programs
  • valid driver’s license

Job Duties

  • assist with conducting cultural resource surveys
  • support public outreach efforts including developing presentations and educational materials
  • research and archive historic records including cataloging and scanning documents
  • monitor and document archaeological and built resources
  • compile and map data for archaeological reports
  • participate in outreach events for various audiences
  • provide field support for natural resource programs such as botany and boundary surveys
