Job Requirements

  • High school graduate
  • basic life support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within six months unless exempted by leadership
  • no prior experience required
  • competent in IV insertion and venipuncture based on department needs
  • excellent communication skills
  • excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • intermediate computer skills with experience using computer systems and electronic mail
  • ability to follow directions and work well independently and with technologists, physicians, and patients
  • physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist
  • lift up to 20 lbs overhead
  • carry up to 40 lbs reasonable distance
  • push/pull with 30 lbs of force
  • perform sliding transfer of 150 lbs with assistance
  • functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch
  • ability to use fine hand manipulation skills
  • willingness to use protective clothing due to exposure to mechanical, radiation, electrical hazards, and bodily fluids
  • ability to operate all necessary equipment for the job.

Job Qualifications

  • High school graduate
  • basic life support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within six months of hire unless exempted by leadership
  • competent communication skills to effectively interact with patients, staff, and physicians
  • excellent customer service and organizational skills
  • intermediate computer skills including experience with computer applications, systems, and electronic mail
  • ability to follow directions and work independently and collaboratively with technologists, physicians, and patients.

Job Duties

  • Transport patients between departments and escort patients, families, and visitors as needed
  • use radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information
  • assist patients in preparation for exams and transferring patients to and from exam rooms
  • provide basic instructions regarding routine procedures such as changing clothes and positioning
  • organize and prepare exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment
  • greet patients and visitors and respond to routine requests for information, reports, or film loans
  • answer telephone calls promptly, screen calls, schedule patient appointments, and take messages
  • act as a liaison between ordering physician, radiologist, and technologist
  • provide radiology reports and/or radiographic images to staff, physicians, patients, and/or family upon request
  • file, retrieve, and release health information records and films
  • compile film jackets/discs and complete required documentation
  • document requested information and promptly communicate observations, concerns, and patient needs to physicians and healthcare team members
  • complete routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment, including cleaning and sterilizing instruments
  • assist with screening and documentation of MRI implants as needed
  • demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate patient care as per departmental policies and procedures.
