Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in restaurants, catering, or healthcare kitchens
  • ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • ability to obtain a Food Handlers card
  • ability to participate in and pass a HACCP course
  • must be at least 18 years old
  • knowledge of basic kitchen equipment operations
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in restaurants, catering, or healthcare kitchens
  • ability to understand and follow instructions in English
  • effective communication skills
  • performs simple arithmetic including measurements and conversions
  • ability to obtain a Food Handlers card
  • participates in and passes a HACCP course
  • at least 18 years old
  • ability to plan and organize work
  • interprets instructions, recipes, specifications, and standards
  • knowledge of basic kitchen equipment operations
  • ability to communicate, empathize, and work with residents, families, visitors, peers, supervisors, and subordinates
  • ability to instruct service and utility staff effectively

Job Duties

  • Prepares menu items to order utilizing major food service equipment
  • serves menu items in a timely manner
  • prepares food in accordance with HACCP and facility established policies and procedures
  • properly labels and stores food items regarding HACCP
  • uses the meat slicer and large mixer in performing prep duties
  • follows safety regulations and established infection control and Universal precautions policies
  • trains new and existing staff as assigned by the chef
  • assists the chef with menu planning, ordering, and food preparation
  • uses correct portion control to manage costs
  • maintains food storage and preparation areas clean and properly arranged
  • disposes of food and waste according to policies
  • monitors and performs cleaning procedures and assists with dishwashing
  • cleans and maintains the general kitchen and cooking surfaces
  • assists in inventorying and storing incoming food
  • provides documentation of food and equipment temperatures
  • performs other foodservice or dining service activities as assigned
  • maintains personal hygiene and complies with department dress code
  • attends in-service training and education sessions as assigned
