Job Requirements

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements
  • Position designated as mobility position with possible relocation or transfers
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance
  • Willingness to fly military or commercial aircraft for TDY assignments
  • Position requires disclosure of political appointments
  • Must be able to complete supervisory or managerial probationary period
  • May be required to complete background security investigation
  • Male applicants must be registered for Selective Service
  • Incumbent must be Brigadier General, O-7, AFSC 90G0
  • Must be willing to move or transfer as directed
  • Position centrally managed with travel and relocation expenses paid
  • May receive leave accrual incentives
  • Applicant subject to probationary or trial period
  • Must demonstrate tact and diplomacy in dealing with high-level military and civilian personnel
  • Must maintain active membership in an Air Force Reserve unit
  • Retired military personnel generally ineligible unless showing current assignment

Job Qualifications

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-14 level in federal service or equivalent
  • Knowledge of manpower, personnel management, and service programs
  • Ability to analyze information and direct personnel and resource management policies
  • Skill in developing effective policies and personnel management practices
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and officials
  • Knowledge of safety and security regulations
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct organizational functions and mentor staff
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written
  • Experience justifying, defending or negotiating for resources
  • Experience participating in significant conferences, meetings, presentations
  • Familiarity with military and civilian manpower and personnel management principles and trends

Job Duties

  • Serve as the Air Force Reserve Command Director of the A1 staff including Reserve AGR Management Office and Professional Development Center and all other command personnel programs
  • Plan, develop and direct force development and management policies and programs supporting Air Force transformation and Total Force Concept
  • Optimize Reserve ability to support joint expeditionary operational forces and missions
  • Direct, coordinate and oversee work through subordinate supervisors
  • Advise staff on policies, procedures, and directives of higher-level management or headquarters
  • Approve leave for subordinate supervisors and ensure adequate coverage during peak workloads and holiday vacation times
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to ideas of subordinates
  • Represent the A1 directorate at high-level meetings, boards, conferences, and meetings
  • Maintain continuous liaison with senior management in AFRC, the Guard, other Major Commands and Department of Defense organizations, and Air Staff
