Job Requirements

  • Earned college degree in a related field or at least 45 college credits completed and be actively enrolled
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to provide student transportation in college vehicles
  • Ability to pass a background check
  • Flexibility to work irregular evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to communicate professionally with a customer service mindset
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physical environments
  • Ability to perform moderate to active physical activity
  • Experience with computers, managing email, and using multiple computer programs

Job Qualifications

  • Earned college degree in a related field or at least 45 college credits completed and actively enrolled
  • Experience supervising student workers or groups
  • Knowledge of recreation, fitness activities, or sports
  • Experience in customer service, event planning, or leadership roles
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to use computer programs and manage email and online calendars
  • Experience with marketing and social media management preferred
  • Experience working in higher education or student engagement activities preferred

Job Duties

  • Supervise Recreation Assistants who oversee the Hutchinson Union Building and recreational programming
  • Recruit, hire, supervise, evaluate, and schedule Recreation Assistants
  • Supervise Mascot Representatives who portray the college mascot and assist with spirit activities
  • Support daily operations of the Hutchinson Union Building and report issues promptly to professional staff
  • Collaborate with Student Life staff to plan, organize, and supervise recreational activities including intramurals, drop-in games, and outdoor events
  • Oversee recreation programs ensuring safe conduct and responding to incidents, emergencies, and policy violations
  • Assist with development, marketing, and implementation of campus and off-campus events including providing transportation and chaperoning
  • Develop relationships with students encouraging participation in activities, clubs, leadership programs, and service projects
  • Advise and support recreational student groups such as clubs and intramural teams
  • Design and distribute marketing materials for recreational events in print and on social media
  • Maintain Student Life's presence and event information on the SMCC App and social media
  • Provide office and administrative support including managing email and computer programs
  • Assist Student Life with additional projects and initiatives as assigned
  • Perform other duties as directed by the Assistant Director of Student Life and Associate Dean of Students
