Job Requirements

  • HSD or GED is required
  • Minimum of two years of school based or HS cooking experience is required
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for local travel
  • Good driving record and appropriate automobile insurance
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in a non-smoking environment

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Minimum of two years of school based or high school cooking experience
  • Proficient computer experience
  • Working knowledge of USDA Child Food Program
  • Working knowledge of food safety
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with team members

Job Duties

  • Performs according to the standards set forth by Head Start, NAEYC, CACFP, USDA, Tennessee Day Care Licensing and Porter-Leath while performing duties within the kitchen and the center
  • Prepares and serves meals in quantities according to menu, special dietary needs, and number of persons to be served in accordance with USDA recommended daily dietary allowances
  • Maintains and regularly updates inventory of all food supplies and equipment
  • Completes food and kitchen supply ordering in a timely manner taking into account the program budget, timelines, and needs
  • Reports kitchen information and issues to various supervising bodies
  • Complies with all health department and Porter-Leath requirements regarding food preparation, food storage and cleanliness
  • Maintains cleanliness of kitchen area by washing dishes, cleaning counters and equipment, sweeping and mopping, and other tasks
  • Maintains logs, receipts and documentation so that information is maintained and readily researchable
  • Keeps Supervisor informed of programmatic issues in a timely and concise manner
  • Works cooperatively with other staff to create a positive, enriching and safe environment for children, families and staff
  • Completes monthly reporting to the appropriate authorities
  • Participate in the education of our students by collaborating with teachers and other members of the staff
  • Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as assigned
  • Assist with monitoring point of service meals for CACFP and USDA compliance
  • Assist with monitoring database entries for daily meals served prior to submitting
  • Discuss with Lead Food Service Worker and Family Services staff to cross reference daily count of meals served
