Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • one-year experience cooking food for large groups
  • one-year experience performing security or social service work preferred
  • any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • Serve-Safe Certification

Job Duties

  • Accepts and processes residents staying in shelter overnight
  • monitors the activity of residents on an assigned shift ensuring safety, security and compliance to house rules
  • maintains accurate and complete records containing pertinent information
  • ensures that the shelter is maintained in a clean and proper order
  • prepares, cooks and serves meals and snacks in accordance with established guidelines and schedules
  • cleans kitchen and equipment
  • maintains inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner
  • checks clients into the shelter
  • prepares and monitors client intake
  • prepares resident roster and maintains resident records
  • monitors the activities of the shelter residents
  • ensuring safety and compliance with house rules
  • checks the security of the building and makes periodic rounds of entire building and records any information needed
  • answers telephone and responds to questions regarding the shelter operations
  • cleans, cooks and prepares a variety of meals in accordance with acceptable and economical cooking methods
  • serves food in a presentable manner
  • maintains proper supply and orderliness of kitchen stock inventory in order to meet the needs of the kitchen
