Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Four years housekeeping/laundry experience preferably in a hotel of similar size and complexity including supervisory experience
  • Some college preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to carry or lift up to 50 pounds and push or pull approximately 200 pounds
  • Frequent standing and moving about the facility
  • Frequent handling of objects and equipment
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Strong communication skills for interacting with guests, employees, and third parties
  • Proficient reading and writing skills
  • Basic math skills including budgeting and profit/loss concepts
  • Problem solving, reasoning, motivational, organizational, and training abilities
  • May work nights, weekends, and/or holidays

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum four years housekeeping/laundry experience preferably in a hotel of similar size and complexity including supervisory experience
  • Some college preferred
  • Must speak fluent English
  • Other languages preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Reading and writing abilities
  • Mathematical skills including budgeting and profit/loss concepts
  • Problem solving and organizational skills
  • Ability to train and motivate staff

Job Duties

  • Manage the housekeeping and laundry operation to ensure product quality standards are met and optimum service is provided to hotel guests according to hotel and company objectives
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the housekeeping department, plan, schedule, and organize work to ensure proper coverage
  • Communicate and enforce policies and procedures
  • Recommend and/or initiate salary, disciplinary, or other staffing/human resources-related actions in accordance with company rules and policies
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and has the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their respective job duties
  • Develop and implement procedures for managing the quality of housekeeping and laundry services
  • Schedule routine inspections of all guest rooms and public areas to ensure cleanliness and good repair to meet guest satisfaction
  • Monitor, coordinate and execute the special needs and requests of VIP, repeat guests and members of frequency program(s)
  • Respond to guest complaints and special requests, and ensure corrective action is taken to achieve complete guest satisfaction
  • Control expenses within all areas of housekeeping
  • Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans
  • Conduct comprehensive departmental meetings and pre-shift meetings
  • Establish par levels for supplies and equipment
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through communication and coordination with other departments including Front Office, Guest Relations, Maintenance, and Food and Beverage
  • May be responsible for lost and found items or coordinate that function
  • Assist with deep cleaning projects and housekeeping staff during unanticipated rush periods
  • Serve as manager on duty as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
