Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Successful completion of background and security investigation
  • Pre-employment physical examination
  • Completion of online onboarding process with acceptable identification
  • Participation in the Department of Veterans Affairs seasonal influenza vaccination program
  • Commitment to a one-year probationary or two-year trial period
  • Ability to work scheduled shifts including weekends
  • Physical capability for strenuous activities and safe handling of equipment and hazardous materials

Job Qualifications

  • Experience in custodial or housekeeping work in healthcare or similar settings
  • Ability to operate industrial cleaning machines and handle cleaning chemicals safely
  • Demonstrated reliability and dependability in previous roles
  • Physical ability to perform continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting heavy equipment
  • Knowledge of safety practices and infection control procedures
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and work with minimal supervision
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills

Job Duties

  • Perform light to heavy cleaning duties throughout VA Medical Center facilities
  • Disinfect exam rooms, procedure rooms, and operating rooms to maintain sanitary conditions
  • Distribute hygienically clean linens and dispose of regulated medical waste safely
  • Address spills promptly and manage trash removal effectively
  • Operate powered cleaning equipment such as buffers and wall washers
  • Climb ladders to clean walls, windows, ceilings, and light fixtures
  • Complete annual competency certifications and adhere to safety protocols
