Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
- Successful completion of background and security investigation
- Pre-employment physical examination
- Completion of online onboarding process with acceptable identification
- Participation in the Department of Veterans Affairs seasonal influenza vaccination program
- Commitment to a one-year probationary or two-year trial period
- Ability to work scheduled shifts including weekends
- Physical capability for strenuous activities and safe handling of equipment and hazardous materials
Job Qualifications
- Experience in custodial or housekeeping work in healthcare or similar settings
- Ability to operate industrial cleaning machines and handle cleaning chemicals safely
- Demonstrated reliability and dependability in previous roles
- Physical ability to perform continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, and lifting heavy equipment
- Knowledge of safety practices and infection control procedures
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work with minimal supervision
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
Job Duties
- Perform light to heavy cleaning duties throughout VA Medical Center facilities
- Disinfect exam rooms, procedure rooms, and operating rooms to maintain sanitary conditions
- Distribute hygienically clean linens and dispose of regulated medical waste safely
- Address spills promptly and manage trash removal effectively
- Operate powered cleaning equipment such as buffers and wall washers
- Climb ladders to clean walls, windows, ceilings, and light fixtures
- Complete annual competency certifications and adhere to safety protocols
