Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to two years of progressively more responsible work-related experience
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred
  • No certification, registration, or licensure required
  • Analytical ability to resolve day-to-day supervision problems
  • Ability to assign, distribute and follow up on colleagues work
  • Ability to provide input into performance appraisals
  • Ability to enforce work rules and policies

Job Duties

  • Coordinates the work of assigned colleagues engaged in various cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and finishing floors
  • Provides input into development of departmental policies, procedures and budgets and assists in administering them
  • Orients, trains, evaluates performance of, and when necessary, recommends discipline and discharge of assigned colleagues
  • Prepares work schedules to ensure adequate coverage and adjusts assignments responding to workload demands or staffing shortages
  • Monitors work quality using inspection reports to ensure compliance with hospital and regulatory standards
  • Reviews patient discharge schedules and ensures rooms are cleaned timely, notifying admitting department when rooms are ready
  • Oversees receipt and distribution of housekeeping supplies, maintains inventory and requisitions replacements as needed
  • Monitors use of cleaning supplies and equipment ensuring cost-effective practices and trains unit personnel in usage
  • Assists manager in evaluating physical condition of facilities and furnishings and recommends necessary repairs or replacements
  • Prepares periodic reports reflecting environmental services activities such as production, supply usage, project and quality control reports
