Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- At least one to three months of on the job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training
- Ability to perform continuous walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and heavy lifting
- Must be able to work evening shifts including every other weekend
- Must adhere to safety and environmental protocols
- Ability to communicate effectively in English
- Physical ability to handle equipment weighing up to 400 pounds
- Commitment to teamwork and organizational values
- Willingness to use beeper or two-way radio if required
- No driving required
- Union membership with International Brotherhood Teamsters
- Ability to work in environments with exposure to odors, cleaning chemicals, and inclement weather
Job Qualifications
- Ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions
- Ability to prepare cleaning solutions according to procedure
- Ability to assemble and operate cleaning equipment like mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, and mop buckets
- Ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
- Ability to count and perform basic math
- Ability to operate motorized and manual cleaning equipment safely
- Ability to perform duties professionally following departmental policies
- Physical ability to lift, carry, push heavy equipment and materials
- Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques and hospital sanitation procedures
Job Duties
- Perform heavy cleaning duties following established E.S.D. procedures
- Shampoo carpets and upholstery
- Refinish floors using manual and motorized equipment
- Dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings, and wash window glass
- Clean sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, and showers in hospital lavatories
- Service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- Prepare burn and radiation rooms with protective coverings
- Clean beds, mattresses, and sleeping carts from top to bottom
- Dispose of rubbish and soiled linen according to protocol
- Wash rubbish chute rooms and trucks
- Operate baler equipment and transport recycling totes
- Polish woodwork, furniture, brass fittings, and stainless steel surfaces
- Transport mattresses and patient room furniture
- Assist nursing staff in moving beds and furniture
- Remove dirt, snow, and applying salt to sidewalks and building entrances
- Change cubicle curtains and draperies
- Remove and repair window blinds
- Clean construction areas after renovations
- Use communication devices as required
- Assist supply clerks and perform supply room duties
- Conduct laundry linen inventory
- Perform other assigned duties
