Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- at least one to three months of on-the-job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training
- ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions
- physical capability to lift and push equipment weighing up to 400 pounds
- willingness to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
- ability to communicate effectively in English
- no driving required
- adherence to institutional policies including safety, discrimination-free work environment, and cooperation with team members
Job Qualifications
- Basic knowledge of cleaning procedures and safety precautions
- ability to prepare cleaning solutions according to instructions
- ability to assemble and operate cleaning equipment including manual and motorized devices
- ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
- physical ability to perform heavy lifting, carrying, pushing, climbing ladders, and operating various cleaning equipment
- ability to work safely in compliance with Environmental Department policies
- some experience with hazardous waste handling is beneficial
Job Duties
- Perform heavy cleaning duties including floor, carpet, and upholstery sanitation
- follow established ESD chemical handling and operating procedures
- shampoo carpets and refinish floors with manual and motorized equipment
- dust vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings, and wash windows using safety devices
- clean miscellaneous items such as wastebaskets, television sets, fans, and rubber mats
- wash and disinfect all hospital lavatory fixtures
- service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- wash walls manually or with mechanical devices
- prepare burn and Radiation (I-131) rooms with protective coverings
- clean beds, mattresses, and sleeping carts throughout the hospital
- pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen according to protocol
- operate rubbish chute rooms and clean with pressure sprayer
- maintain and clean rubbish trucks
- perform minor truck maintenance
- operate baler equipment for recycling
- spot clean walls and polish woodwork, brass fittings, and stainless steel surfaces
- remove and transport animal waste and linens
- move hospital furniture and beds, assisting nursing staff as needed
- clear snow, dirt, and salt from sidewalks and entrances
- clean entrance mats and assist with grounds maintenance in inclement weather
- change cubicle curtains and draperies
- wash and repair window blinds
- clean construction areas post-renovation
- carry and use communication devices such as beepers or two-way radios
- assist supply clerks as necessary
- service batteries on battery-operated devices
- set up conference rooms
- take inventory of laundry linens
- perform additional housekeeping and laundry duties as assigned
