Job Requirements
- At least one to three months of on-the-job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training
- Basic knowledge of cleaning methods and chemical handling
- Ability to work in a physically demanding environment
- Ability to adhere to established safety protocols
- Ability to work day shifts including weekends and holidays
- Ability to use safety equipment such as ladders and powered tools
- Ability to handle exposure to unpleasant odors, contaminated items and cleaning chemicals
Job Qualifications
- Ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions
- Ability to prepare cleaning solutions according to procedure
- Ability to assemble cleaning equipment such as mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets and ringers
- Ability to read, write, understand and speak English
- Ability to count numbers
- Ability to operate, control and clean motorized and manual cleaning equipment
- Ability to perform duties safely and professionally
- Physical ability to lift, carry or push equipment and furniture
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Job Duties
- Perform floor, carpet, upholstery cleaning and refinishing using E.S.D. procedures
- Dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings and wash window glass using ladders or safety devices
- Clean wastebaskets, television sets, fans, rubber mats, and other miscellaneous items
- Wash and disinfect all sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, and showers in hospital lavatories
- Service and refill all soap and paper dispensers
- Prepare burn and Radiation (I-131) rooms by laying protective coverings
- Clean and disinfect beds, mattresses, sleeping carts
- Pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen from patient floors
- Remove rubbish from chute rooms and transport waste appropriately
- Wash rubbish chute rooms and rubbish trucks
- Operate bailer equipment for recycling
- Spot clean walls and polish woodwork, furniture, brass fittings and elevators
- Transport mattresses, patient and office furniture as needed
- Assist nursing personnel in moving beds and patient furniture
- Clean sidewalks and entrances, apply salt, assist grounds crew during inclement weather
- Change cubicle curtains and draperies
- Remove, wash, and repair window blinds
- Clean construction areas after renovations
- Use beeper or two-way radio as requested
- Assist supply clerks and perform their duties during absence
- Make conference room setups
- Take laundry linen inventory and document results
- Perform housekeeping and laundry aide duties as required
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or group leader
