Job Requirements
- high school diploma or equivalent
- at least one to three months of on the job training
- ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions
- ability to handle cleaning chemicals safely
- physical ability to lift heavy equipment and perform manual labor
- effective communication skills in English
- ability to operate motorized and manual cleaning equipment
- willingness to work day shift hours including every other weekend and holidays
- capability to work in various weather conditions
- no driving required
- ability to carry and use communication devices such as beepers or two way radios
- no supervisory responsibilities
- ability to collaborate effectively with hospital personnel
Job Qualifications

- physical ability to lift, carry or push equipment such as floor buffers, wet vacuums, wall-washing machines, carpet cleaning equipment, rubbish and linen carts, transport patients, office furniture, climb ladders and shovel snow
- at least one to three months on the job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training
Job Duties
- perform classroom and on the job training of floor, carpet, upholstery, waste disposal, operating room and chemical handling procedures
- shampoo carpets, upholstery and refinish floors following E.S.D. procedures using manual and motorized devices
- dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings and wash window glass throughout the hospital complex using ladders or other safety devices
- clean miscellaneous items such as wastebaskets, television sets, fans, rubber mats
- wash and disinfect all sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, showers in hospital lavatories
- service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- wash walls manually or using mechanical devices
- prepare all burn and radiation (I-131) rooms by laying protective covering
- clean dust, wash and disinfect all beds, mattresses, sleeping carts
- pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen from patient floors
- remove rubbish from chute rooms and transport for disposal
- wash rubbish chute rooms and rubbish trucks
- perform minor services to trucks and operate bailer equipment for recycling
- wash or spot clean walls, polish woodwork, furniture, brass and stainless steel fittings
- remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens
- transport mattresses and furniture as necessary
- assist nursing personnel in moving beds and patient furniture
- clean sidewalks and entrances including snow and salt removal
- change cubicle curtains and draperies
- remove and wash window blinds and make repairs
- clean construction areas after renovations
- carry and use a beeper or two-way radio upon request
- assist supply clerks and service batteries on devices
- set up conference rooms for meetings and events
- perform duties of supply clerks during their absence
- take laundry linen inventory
- perform Housekeeping Aide I and Laundry Aide II duties as needed
- perform other duties as assigned
