Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one to three months on-the-job training with formal classroom instruction
  • ability to work day shifts including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • physical stamina for heavy lifting and continuous walking
  • ability to handle exposure to unpleasant odors and cleaning chemicals
  • compliance with safety protocols
  • good communication skills in English
  • no driving required
  • willingness to carry communication devices when requested

  • ability to prepare cleaning solutions according to procedures
  • ability to assemble and operate cleaning equipment
  • proficiency in English reading, writing, speaking and basic arithmetic
  • ability to perform all duties safely and professionally according to department policies

  • physical capability to lift, carry, push equipment, climb ladders, and shovel snow

Job Duties

  • perform heavy cleaning duties following established procedures
  • shampoo carpets and upholstery using manual and motorized devices
  • dust vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings and wash windows using ladders and safety devices
  • clean sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, and showers in hospital lavatories
  • service and refill soap and paper dispensers
  • wash walls manually or mechanically
  • prepare burn and radiation rooms with protective covering
  • clean beds, mattresses, and sleeping carts thoroughly
  • pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen appropriately
  • operate rubbish chute room cleaning with pressure sprayer
  • wash rubbish trucks manually or using truck washer
  • perform minor maintenance on rubbish trucks
  • operate baler equipment for recycling
  • polish furniture, brass fittings, and stainless steel surfaces
  • transport animal waste and patient furniture including beds and cribs
  • assist nursing staff in moving patient furniture
  • clean sidewalks and entrances including snow and salt removal
  • change cubicle curtains and launder window blinds with repairs
  • clean construction areas post renovations
  • carry and use communication devices as requested
  • assist supply clerks and perform supply room duties
  • service batteries on battery-operated devices
  • set up conference rooms
  • take laundry linen inventory
  • perform additional housekeeping and laundry duties as needed
