Job Requirements
- basic knowledge in cleaning and safety procedures
- physical ability to perform continuous walking, standing, lifting, pushing heavy carts up to 400 pounds, stooping, climbing ladders and stairs
- minimum of one to three months on-the-job training plus formal classroom training
- ability to perform work in all weather conditions
- ability to handle unpleasant odors and exposure to contaminated items
- adherence to safety precautions to minimize hazards
- no supervisory responsibilities
- availability to work variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays
- English proficiency
- ability to operate cleaning equipment
- union membership under International Brotherhood Teamsters
Job Qualifications
- ability to follow instructions and observe safety precautions
- ability to prepare cleaning solutions following procedures
- ability to assemble and operate cleaning equipment such as mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and ringers
- ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
- ability to count numbers
- ability to operate, control, and clean motorized and manual equipment required for E.S.D. tasks
- physical ability to lift, carry, or push heavy equipment and furniture
- knowledge of safety protocols and professional conduct
- experience with chemical handling and cleaning procedures
- ability to work in a teamwork-oriented environment
Job Duties
- perform heavy cleaning duties throughout the hospital complex
- shampoo carpets and upholstery
- refinish floors following E.S.D. procedures
- dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings
- wash window glass using ladders or safety devices
- clean miscellaneous items such as wastebaskets, televisions, fans
- disinfect sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, showers
- service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- wash walls manually or with mechanical devices
- prepare burn and radiation rooms with protective coverings
- clean beds, mattresses, and sleeping carts thoroughly
- pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linens appropriately
- clean rubbish chute rooms and rubbish trucks
- perform minor maintenance on rubbish trucks
- operate baler equipment for recycling
- clean and polish walls, woodwork, furniture, brass fittings, stainless steel surfaces
- remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens
- transport mattresses and furniture as needed
- assist nursing staff with moving beds and furniture
- clear snow, dirt, and salt from sidewalks and entrances
- maintain entrance mats and apply salt as necessary
- change and clean curtains and blinds
- clean construction areas after renovations
- carry and use communication devices when requested
- assist supply clerks and service batteries
- set up conference rooms
- perform duties of supply clerks during their absence
- take laundry linen inventory
- perform housekeeping and laundry aide duties as needed
- perform other duties as assigned by supervisors
