Job Requirements

  • At least one to three months of on-the-job training plus formal classroom training
  • Ability to work evening shifts, weekends, and holidays
  • Willingness to use safety devices and adhere to policies
  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Ability to follow instructions and safety procedures
  • Experience with cleaning equipment and chemical solutions
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting and manual labor
  • Prior training in environmental services or hospital cleaning preferred

Job Duties

  • Perform heavy cleaning duties following E.S.D. procedures
  • Shampoo carpets and upholstery and refinish floors using manual and motorized devices
  • Dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings, and wash windows throughout the hospital
  • Clean and disinfect sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, and showers in hospital lavatories
  • Service and refill soap and paper dispensers
  • Prepare burn and Radiation (I-131) rooms with protective coverings
  • Dispose of rubbish and soiled linen, transport waste appropriately
  • Wash rubbish chute rooms and trucks
  • Operate bailer equipment for recycling
  • Clean and polish walls, woodwork, furniture, brass fittings, and elevator doors
  • Remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens
  • Assist nursing personnel with moving beds and furniture
  • Remove dirt, snow, and salt from sidewalks and entrances
  • Change cubicle curtains and draperies, wash and repair window blinds
  • Clean construction areas after renovations
  • Operate communication devices as required
  • Assist supply clerks and perform laundry duties as needed
  • Set up conference rooms for events
  • Take laundry linen inventory
  • Perform other duties assigned by supervisor or group leader
