Job Requirements
- At least one to three months of on-the-job training including formal classroom instruction
- Ability to perform all duties safely and professionally according to Environmental Department and Fleet Risk Control policies and procedures
- Physical strength to lift and push equipment weighing up to 400 pounds
- Capacity to tolerate exposure to unpleasant odors, contaminated items, and strong cleaning agents
- Willingness to work evening shifts from 3:30 pm to 11:00 pm Monday to Friday with some weekend and holiday shifts
- Ability to handle hazards such as improperly disposed needles and broken glass by adhering to safety protocols
- No driving required
- Must be able to carry and use radio communication devices upon request.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Ability to follow instructions and safety precautions
- Ability to prepare cleaning solutions as per procedures
- Capability to assemble and operate cleaning equipment including mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and E.S.D. equipment
- Basic English reading, writing, understanding, and speaking skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting, carrying, pushing equipment, and climbing ladders
- Prior experience with environmental services or custodial work is advantageous but not mandatory
- Ability to communicate effectively within a team environment and use two-way radios or beepers as required.
Job Duties
- Perform heavy cleaning duties following established environmental service procedures
- Shampoo carpets, upholstery, and refinish floors using manual and motorized devices
- Dust high vents, lights, pipes, ceilings, and wash window glass throughout the hospital
- Clean sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, and showers in hospital lavatories
- Service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- Prepare burn and radiation (I-131) rooms with protective coverings
- Clean and disinfect beds, mattresses, and sleeping carts
- Collect and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen appropriately
- Operate and maintain rubbish trucks, pressure sprayers, bailer equipment, and other cleaning machinery
- Clean walls, polish woodwork, furniture, brass fittings, and stainless steel surfaces
- Remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens
- Transport furniture and assist nursing staff with moving beds and patient furniture
- Clean sidewalks and entrances using manual or powered equipment
- Change cubicle curtains, draperies, and window blinds and make minor repairs
- Clean construction areas post-renovation
- Assist supply clerks and perform inventory
- Make conference room setups
- Perform housekeeping aide and laundry aide duties as required
- Respond to supervisor or group leader's assignments.
