Job Requirements
- minimum of one to three months of on the job training plus formal and ongoing classroom training
- continuous walking and standing
- ability to carry and push heavy trash carts weighting up to 400 pounds
- ability to stoop, lift, climb ladders and stairs
- willingness to handle exposure to unpleasant odors, contaminated items, and strong cleaning solutions
- ability to follow safety precautions to minimize exposure hazards
- no supervisory responsibilities
- ability to work shifts including early mornings and weekends
- must be a union member of International Brotherhood Teamsters
- must be located at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island
Job Qualifications
- ability to follow instruction and observe safety precautions
- ability to prepare cleaning solutions according to procedures
- ability to assemble cleaning equipment such as mops, dusters, vacuum cleaners, mop buckets, and ringers
- ability to read, write, understand, and speak English
- ability to count numbers
- ability to operate, control, and clean motorized and manual cleaning equipment required for E.S.D. tasks
- ability to perform duties in a safe and professional manner according to Environmental Department and Fleet Risk Control policies
- physical ability to lift, carry or push equipment such as floor buffers, wet vacuums, wall-washing machines, automatic floor-washing machines, carpet cleaning equipment, rubbish carts and linen carts
- capability to climb ladders and shovel snow
Job Duties
- perform a variety of heavy cleaning duties in accordance with established procedures
- shampoo carpets and upholstery and refinish floors using appropriate E.S.D. procedures
- dust high vents, lights, pipes, lockers, ceilings and wash window glass using safety devices
- clean wastebaskets, television sets, fans, rubber mats and other miscellaneous items
- wash and disinfect sinks, toilets, floors, urinals, bedpan racks, bathtubs, showers in hospital lavatories
- service and refill soap and paper dispensers
- wash walls manually or with mechanical devices
- prepare burn and radiation (I-131) rooms by laying protective coverings
- clean, dust, wash and disinfect beds, mattresses and sleeping carts
- pick up and dispose of rubbish and soiled linen from patient floors
- remove rubbish from chute rooms and transport for disposal
- wash rubbish chute rooms and rubbish trucks
- perform minor truck maintenance
- operate bailer equipment for box recycling
- clean and polish walls, furniture, brass fittings, and stainless steel surfaces
- remove and transport animal waste and soiled linens
- transport mattresses and various furniture
- assist nursing personnel in moving beds and patient furniture
- clear dirt, snow and salt from sidewalks and entrances
- change cubicle curtains and draperies
- remove and wash window blinds and perform repairs
- clean construction areas after renovations
- carry and use communication devices as requested
- assist supply clerks and perform their duties as needed
- service batteries on battery operated devices
- set up conference rooms for meetings and events
- take inventory of laundry linen
- perform Housekeeping Aide I and Laundry Aide II duties as required
- perform other duties as assigned by supervisor or group leader
