The Environmental Management Services Division of the VA Medical Center is currently seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join their team as Housekeeping Aids. Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Passed a drug urinalysis prior to appointment
  • Selective Service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Completion of online onboarding process
  • Submission of required documents including resume
  • Agreement to serve a one-year probationary period
  • Compliance with the VA's seasonal influenza vaccination program
  • Ability to perform physical duties including operating heavy equipment
  • Availability to work multiple shifts including nights, weekends and holidays

Job Qualifications

  • Evidence of training or experience demonstrating ability to perform housekeeping duties
  • Knowledge of cleaning techniques and equipment operation
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Physical stamina for continuous walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Visual acuity and dexterity to detect dirt and handle equipment
  • Reliability and dependability in performing assigned tasks
  • Willingness to follow directions and safety protocols

Job Duties

  • Performs floor maintenance including sweeping, dust mopping, damp and wet mopping, scrubbing, stripping, refinishing, buffing, vacuuming and carpet extraction
  • Cleans doors, doorframes, baseboards, corners, edges, and stairwells
  • Empties trash and wastebaskets and replaces liners
  • Transports general refuse, regulated medical waste, and recycling to central collection areas
  • Cleans restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms including disinfecting and deodorizing fixtures
  • Replenishes supplies of paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap
  • Moves and arranges furniture, patient wardrobes, beds to facilitate cleaning
  • Provides bed-making services and cleans patient room furniture and equipment
  • Removes soiled textiles and restocks clean textile closets and carts
  • Defrosts and cleans patient care refrigerators and ice machines
  • Cleans stainless steel counters, elevators, ashtrays, and water fountains
  • Cleans windows, glass surfaces, replaces curtains and cleans blinds
  • Cleans or replaces needle boxes
  • Periodically cleans non-critical reusable medical equipment
  • Provides guidance to Compensated Work Therapy workers as needed
