Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
- Willingness to undergo urinalysis drug screening
- Selective Service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Completion of online onboarding process including acceptable identification
- Compliance with probationary period
- Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting 45 lbs and over, walking, standing, bending, crawling, kneeling, climbing
- Ability to work shifts 3:30 PM - 12:00 AM including weekends and holidays
- Willingness to comply with Department of Veterans Affairs policies including influenza vaccination or exemption
- Ability to follow federal employment procedures and documentation requirements
- Commitment to the mission and values of the VA
Job Qualifications
- Experience demonstrating knowledge, skills, and ability to perform janitorial and custodial duties in a healthcare or institutional facility
- Ability to handle heavy lifting and perform physically demanding tasks
- Capability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment
- Effective communication and teamwork skills
- Familiarity with cleaning and disinfecting procedures and safety protocols
- Commitment to maintaining a sanitary and safe environment
- Basic understanding of inventory and supply management
- Willingness to work varied shifts including holidays and weekends
Job Duties
- Performs floor maintenance including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, stripping, buffing, vacuuming, and extracting carpets
- Cleans doors, doorframes, baseboards, corners, edges, and stairwells
- Empties trash and wastebaskets, replaces liners, and transports refuse and recycling
- Cleans restrooms, bathrooms, and shower rooms ensuring sanitation standards
- Replenishes supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, hand sanitizers, and soap
- Moves and arranges furniture and patient equipment to facilitate cleaning
- Provides bed-making services in patient care areas including cleaning of mattresses and bedside furniture
- Removes soiled textiles and restocks clean textiles, participates in inventory management
- Cleans patient care refrigerators and ice machines
- Performs interim cleaning of windows, glass surfaces, and replaces curtains and blinds
- Cleans or replaces needle boxes
- Periodically cleans non-critical reusable medical equipment
