Job Requirements
- U.S. citizenship
- Suitable for federal employment as determined by background investigation
- Pass urinalysis drug screening prior to appointment
- Selective service registration required for males born after 12/31/1959
- Complete all application requirements including submission of resume and supporting documents
- Ability to perform physical duties including bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds
- Willingness to work the assigned schedule of Saturday to Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
- Successful completion of a one-year probationary period
- Compliance with VA policies including seasonal influenza vaccination or approved exemption
- Manual dexterity to use equipment and communicate effectively
Job Qualifications
- Adequate training or experience demonstrating ability to perform housekeeping tasks
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills
- Knowledge of cleaning supplies, equipment, and safety protocols
- Ability to follow directions and interpret instructions
- Experience in light and heavy custodial work or janitorial services
- Physical ability to perform demanding cleaning tasks and lift up to 50 pounds
- Good communication skills for coordinating with staff and supervisors
Job Duties
- Perform a full range of light and heavy cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, scrubbing floors, vacuuming carpets and upholstery
- Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas
- Dispose of trash and refill dispensers such as toilet tissue and towels
- Install and replace light bulbs in halls and rooms
- Lead and supervise a team of three or more housekeeping aides, assigning tasks and validating completion
- Coordinate cleaning projects with nurses and area supervisors to ensure timely completion
- Train employees in proper cleaning techniques, use of supplies and equipment, and safety procedures
