Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Suitability for federal employment as determined by background investigation
  • Passing a drug test prior to appointment
  • Selective service registration for males born after 12/31/1959
  • Completion of online onboarding process with acceptable identification
  • Completion of application requirements including submitting a resume
  • Commitment to a 1-year probationary period
  • Ability to perform light and heavy cleaning tasks
  • Ability to work Monday to Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m.
  • Attendance of 1-2 week training during first shift
  • Compliance with VA policies including influenza vaccination or exemption
  • Willingness to support federal ideals and abide by rules and laws

Job Qualifications

  • Experience demonstrating ability to perform housekeeping duties
  • Knowledge of cleaning methods and safety procedures
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Dexterity and ability to handle weights and loads
  • Reliability and dependability
  • Experience in maintaining cleanliness in a healthcare or similar environment

Job Duties

  • Clean wards, patient rooms, storerooms, offices, corridors, restrooms, shower rooms, and other areas
  • Sweep, mop, scrub (machine) floors, vacuum carpets and upholstered furniture, empty waste baskets, clean light globes and Venetian blinds, wash walls, windows and ceilings by climbing small ladders, refill toilet tissue and towel dispensers, and move furniture
  • Carry out assignments with minimal supervision
  • Address spills quickly, install light bulbs in halls and rooms
  • Make beds, change linens, distribute linens, dust furniture and blinds, clean kitchen, load and unload dishwashers, vacuum, collect and remove waste, clean walls, corners, and baseboards
  • Clean guest rooms upon checkout including changing bed linens, emptying trash, vacuuming, edging carpets, mopping bathroom floors, dusting furniture, cleaning glass and mirrors, cleaning bathrooms, and replenishing supplies
  • Perform daily cleaning of common areas including kitchen surfaces, appliances, ovens, refrigerators, living room, dining room, family room, laundry room, hallways, offices, and bathrooms
  • Inventory and reorder cleaning supplies and equipment through VA EVS
