Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication
  • Previous long-term care experience preferred
  • Supportive team member
  • Ability to make independent decisions
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and public
  • Patience and tact dealing with difficult residents, family and staff
  • Ability to relay information regarding resident’s condition
  • Must not pose health and safety risk
  • Ability to move intermittently throughout the workday
  • Compliance with health requirements including medical and physical exams and immunity checks
  • Willingness to work beyond normal hours, weekends and holidays when necessary
  • Ability to assist in resident evacuation
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, lifting
  • Exposure to various occupational hazards including infectious diseases and chemicals
  • Ability to maintain good communication and judgement
  • Adaptability, friendliness, politeness, courteousness, and caring attitude
  • Thoroughness and ability to be organized and efficient
  • Ability to work alone and with a team.

Job Duties

  • Carries out all cleaning duties as directed by the Environmental Services Director according to department policies and procedures
  • Ensures daily and deep cleaning schedules are adhered to
  • Maintains a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene
  • Ensures all cleaning equipment is correctly and safely used and kept in safe condition
  • Reports any defect to the department director
  • Practices sensitivity to the privacy and individual needs of the residents
  • Adheres to infection control policies and correct use of personal protective equipment requirements
  • Completes all necessary documentation daily
  • Dusts furniture, woodwork, equipment and dust-mops floors
  • Polishes and cleans fixtures in rooms and bathrooms
  • Operates environmental services equipment such as vacuums, floor cleaners, buffers, shampooers
  • Wet-mops rooms, halls and other areas
  • Shampoos rugs and furniture
  • Cleans vents, fan fixtures, top of windows, door frames and other high surfaces
  • Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials using specified bags and containers
  • Moves furniture and other heavy objects as required
  • Performs terminal cleaning procedures of resident rooms and prepares rooms for new admissions
  • Follows isolation procedures in isolation rooms
  • Cleans and disinfects all fixtures, floors, mirrors, windows, doors and walls of bathrooms
  • Makes supply packs for departments and puts linen stacks in carts for distribution
  • Takes supply requests and delivers them
  • Delivers linen to departments according to pre-established par levels and schedules
  • Keeps work areas neat and orderly, cleans equipment and assists with other cleaning duties
  • Treats all residents with dignity and respect
  • Promotes and protects all residents’ rights
  • Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies, procedures, standards of business conduct and regulations
  • Follows safety and hygiene measures to protect residents and self
  • Maintains confidentiality of protected health information
  • Reports noncompliance, retaliation, discrimination, abuse, neglect, or mistreatment and cooperates with investigations
  • Reports occupational exposures and work-related injuries
  • Participates in life safety and emergency drills and fulfills emergency plan responsibilities
  • Completes all assigned training and skills competency as a condition of employment.
