Job Requirements

  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • must be at least 21 years of age
  • understanding of safety practices and procedures
  • ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment
  • ability to positively interact with employees and volunteers

  • organized and self-motivated
  • legible handwriting and good English communication skills
  • ability to respond well under stress
  • ability to learn zoo facilities and botanical species
  • pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • willingness to work varied hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to work near exotic and domestic animals safely

Job Duties

  • Exemplify Zoo Knoxville core values through interactions with guests and team members
  • follow procedures and guidelines related to care of grounds and facilities
  • perform routinely scheduled housekeeping operations including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, and restocking supplies
  • conduct periodic activities such as snow removal, floor maintenance, and deep cleaning of facilities
  • safely operate housekeeping and grounds equipment including trucks, carts, ladders, blowers, sweepers, and hand tools
  • maintain quality, cleanliness, safety, and functionality of all park areas
  • assist in setup and removal of special exhibits and events
  • adhere to safety procedures and guidelines
  • complete daily reports on activities, equipment use, and time management
  • collaborate with other zoo departments to ensure positive guest experience
  • demonstrate continued interest and knowledge in housekeeping advancements
  • comply with all governmental and regulatory policies including OSHA, ADA, EPA, and more
  • uphold professional appearance and wear standard uniform
  • perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors and leadership team
