Job Description
This position is with a healthcare facility focused on providing a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for its residents. The facility prioritizes maintaining high standards of hygiene and safety through a dedicated housekeeping department. This role involves performing daily housekeeping activities as guided by the Housekeeping Supervisor to ensure compliance with facility policies, infection prevention, and safety regulations. Job Requirements
- Must possess at least an eighth grade education
- must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
- must work weekends
- must possess ability to make independent decisions, follow instructions and accept constructive criticism
- must possess ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors and general public
- must maintain care and use of supplies and equipment
- must perform inspections of resident rooms for sanitation, order, and safety
- must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel
- must be willing to handle residents at varying maturity levels
- must be able to follow written and oral instructions on mixing cleaning compounds
- must be able to relate information concerning resident conditions
- must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others in the workplace
- must be physically able to move intermittently
- must cope with mental and emotional stress
- must have sight and hearing capabilities or prosthetics to function adequately
- must function independently with flexibility and personal integrity
- must meet general health requirements including medical and physical examination
- must be able to relate to ill, disabled or emotionally upset individuals
- must be able to push, pull, move or lift minimum 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet
- must be willing to assist in evacuations if needed
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments
- document as required by facility policies
- coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services
- coordinate skill check-off verification and housekeeping-related competencies
- attend department and staff meetings
- carry linens, towels, toilet items and cleaning supplies using proper sanitary and safety techniques
- report all accidents/incidents to supervisor
- clean and disinfect equipment and supplies using germicides or sterilization procedures
- monitor environment for potential hazards
- prioritize housekeeping requests involving safety or time-sensitive issues
- clean vacant rooms and document cleaning and sanitization
- ensure proper disposal of infectious waste
- discard waste/trash and reline trash receptacles
- ensure work/assignment areas are clean and materials properly stored
- perform cleaning procedures in accordance with infection prevention
- clean carpets by vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing and disinfecting
- clean floors by sweeping, dusting, mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing and disinfecting
- clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, locker rooms and other areas
- clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting and deodorizing
- clean windows/mirrors
- clean, wash, sanitize and polish bathroom fixtures
- empty wastebaskets and ashtrays and transport trash to disposal areas
- perform day-to-day housekeeping functions
- remove dirt, dust, grease, film using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions
- ensure attendance of skill development events and complete competencies
- provide training and mentoring for new team members
- attend annual in-service training programs
- participate in quality assurance and performance improvement projects
- follow infection prevention, Life Safety Code, risk management and fire safety policies
- maintain work areas free of hazards
- report hazardous conditions and improperly labeled chemicals
- use appropriate personal protective equipment
- wear and use safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy objects
- knock before entering resident rooms
- respect resident privacy rights
- turn in found articles and assist searching for missing items
- communicate with housekeeping and other department personnel
- work beyond normal hours and on weekends/holidays as needed
- respond to emergency call-back situations
- attend continuing education programs
- work under mental and emotional stress
- handle exposure to infectious wastes and hazardous chemicals carefully
