Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One year experience in a health care facility preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English

Job Duties

  • Perform specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and established housekeeping procedures
  • Assure that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable and attractive manner
  • Follow established infection control practices when performing housekeeping measures
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies
  • Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, heating and cooling units in resident rooms and recreational areas daily as instructed
  • Clean, wash, sanitize, and/or polish bathroom fixtures
  • Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways
  • Clean floors, including sweeping, dusting, damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting
  • Clean carpets by vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting
  • Clean walls and ceiling by washing, wiping, dusting, spot cleaning, disinfecting, deodorizing
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, and films from surfaces using proper cleaning and disinfecting solutions
  • Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators
  • Discard waste and trash into proper containers and reline trash receptacles with plastic liners
  • Report all hazardous conditions or equipment
  • Ensure work and assignment areas are clean and that equipment, tools, supplies are properly stored at all times
  • Maintain an adequate inventory of housekeeping supplies
  • Report burned out light bulbs and other lighting issues to supervisor
  • Perform terminal cleaning procedures when a resident is discharged or transferred
  • Follow work and cleaning procedure schedules
  • Follow established fire-safety policies and procedures
  • Assist others in lifting heavy equipment and supplies as directed
  • Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor
  • Maintain the confidentiality of resident-care information
  • Honor the resident's personal property
  • Turn in all found articles to supervisor
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings
  • Keep work and assignment areas free of hazardous objects such as protruding mop/broom handles and unnecessary supplies
