Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • current knowledge of cleaning and sanitization protocols in healthcare environment
  • ability to safely handle biohazard and medical waste
  • effective communication skills both written and verbal
  • capability to operate basic cleaning and environmental service equipment
  • ability to work varied shifts including weekends as needed
  • reliable and able to follow safety policies
  • ability to document job-related activities and incidents accurately
  • physical capability to perform cleaning duties including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
  • knowledge of maintaining a sterile environment including proper cleaning procedures and various equipment
  • ability to interpret a variety of data and instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • possess written and verbal communication skills to communicate with team members, supervisors, patients, and hospital personnel
  • well-developed time management and organizational skills including ability to prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies and procedures
  • ability to operate basic environmental service equipment including mechanical floor cleaners, buffers, vacuums, washers, dryers
  • ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • ability to accomplish multiple tasks in an environment with interruptions
  • ability to identify, evaluate and resolve standard problems by selecting appropriate solutions from established options
  • ability to build collaborative relationships with peers and other staff to achieve departmental and corporate objectives

Job Duties

  • perform basic cleaning functions in assigned areas following established schedules and procedures
  • prevent the possible spread of infection by thoroughly sanitizing public areas and private rooms in clinical and non-clinical environments
  • maintain an organized work environment including housekeeping cart, closet and storeroom by properly storing cleaning supplies and chemicals
  • remove, transport and dispose of regular, biohazard, sharps, chemotherapy, and other waste products safely according to established procedures
  • ensure that routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames
  • perform clerical tasks such as retrieving, entering and revising patient electronic health records
  • prepare and complete accurate, job-related documentation including recording spills and maintaining inventory
  • maintain a clean, neat, and safe working environment including cleaning and disinfecting equipment after use
  • inspect equipment and report any insufficiencies to supervisor
  • follow department safety and sanitation standards including proper use of chemicals and personal protective equipment
  • perform job responsibilities in compliance with department standards, policies, and procedures as well as local, state and federal regulatory agencies to deliver highest level of service
