Job Requirements

Six months of experience in commercial housekeeping highly preferred
Demonstrates understanding of written and verbal communication in English
Leads must have six months of housekeeping experience at Valley Medical Center
Successful completion of the WorkSteps evaluation
Working knowledge of computers highly preferred
Ability to stand for the majority of the shift
Physical ability to walk approximately five or more hours
Able to push and pull carts with a force of 48 pounds
Ability to handle physical tasks including bending, stretching, stooping, and reaching overhead
Ability to lift up to 32 pounds using proper body mechanics or assistance
Exposure to cleaning chemicals, blood, and body fluids with use of proper PPE
Ability to work safely in a healthcare environment with exposure risks

Job Qualifications

Communicates effectively in English
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills in a diverse population
Able to work on assigned shift including evenings
Able to work on weekends
Works independently

Job Duties

Cleans and performs assigned tasks and projects in the assigned area according to department procedures
Fills out assignment completion report daily and submits it to the shift supervisor
Communicates cleaning needs, maintenance, repairs, and concerns to the shift supervisor
Responds to customer cleaning requests in a timely manner
Performs daily patient room cleaning and patient room discharge cleaning following Environmental Services procedures
Collects and transfers trash and soiled linen to designated areas
Empties waste receptacles and linen holders in designated areas
Cleans trash and linen collection carts to ensure hygiene
Sweeps, dust mops, and wet mops floors in designated areas
Auto-washes, machine scrubs, burnishes, vacuums, or polishes floors with appropriate equipment
Washes walls, ceilings, windows, sinks, cabinets, and plumbing fixtures using cleaning solutions
Refills disposable supplies such as towels, soap, and toilet paper in designated areas
Monitors cleaning quality, reports repair and maintenance needs, and inspects own work daily
Completes all special cleaning assignments as necessary
Attends all department in-service and education meetings or reviews posted meeting minutes
Follows all policies, procedures, and practices as outlined in the Employment Policies and Procedures Manual
Performs all other duties as assigned
For lead housekeepers, ensures adequate staffing levels and service quality, assists staff as needed, answers telephones promptly
Collects and handles waste and soiled linen according to department procedures
Performs specialized cleaning projects including vacuuming, carpet and hard floor care, room setup, and moves
