Job Description
The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a renowned public health sciences university dedicated to education, research, and clinical care. UAMS is recognized for its collaborative healthcare environment that embraces diversity and innovation to improve patient outcomes and enrich the lives of Arkansans. As part of its commitment to fostering a supportive workspace, the university offers a wide range of benefits to eligible staff, including medical, dental, and vision insurance; retirement plans with up to 10% matched contributions; life insurance; paid leave; educational discounts; career training opportunities; and more. The institution is also an equal opportunity employer, adhering strictly to non-discrimination policies protecting employees and applicants from bias based on age, race, sex, disability, and other protected categories. The dress rehearsal for commitment to a respectful workplace starts from recruitment through pre-employment screenings that ensure a safe, secure environment for all.
The Housekeeper role within UAMS plays a critical part in maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across campus housing and student facilities. This position involves delivering daily housekeeping services to a sprawling 177-unit campus housing complex and an adjacent Student Center. The job focuses on thorough cleaning, floor care, sanitation, and upkeep of common and administrative areas. The role demands attention to detail, consistent adherence to health and safety standards, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Responsibilities include regular vacuuming, mopping, bathroom sanitation, trash removal, surface disinfection, and restocking supplies. Housekeepers also engage in deeper cleaning tasks such as disinfecting resident rooms after they vacate, caring for specialty suites, and maintaining recycling and trash areas. This position is pivotal to creating and sustaining a welcoming, hygienic living environment that supports the academic and social wellbeing of residents. Working in this role, employees must be physically robust due to the demands of frequent lifting, stooping, and other active movements. The position offers a competitive hourly wage of $15 and includes access to benefits for eligible staff. Those interested should be ready to undergo standard pre-employment screening, including background checks and drug testing, aligned with UAMS's commitment to safety and trustworthiness. This role is classified as regular skilled labor, operating primarily during the day shift. The Housekeeper will become an integral part of the Campus Life team, directly contributing to the quality of life on campus through their daily commitment to cleanliness and order.
