Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • be at least 21 years of age
  • understanding of safety practices and procedures
  • ability to safely operate maintenance hand tools and equipment
  • ability to interact positively and professionally with employees and volunteers
  • demonstrate teamwork and cooperation
  • be organized, efficient, accurate, self-motivated, and neat
  • possess legible handwriting and good English communication skills
  • ability to react quickly and logically in high stress or emergency situations
  • willingness to learn about zoo facilities and botanical species
  • pass pre-employment drug screen and background check
  • availability to work variable hours including weekends and holidays
  • ability to work in close proximity to exotic and domestic animals
  • physically able to perform heavy lifting up to 100 pounds

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum age of 21 years
  • understanding of safety practices and procedures
  • ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and light equipment
  • positive and professional interaction with employees and volunteers
  • strong teamwork and cooperation skills
  • organized, efficient, accurate, self-motivated, and neat
  • good communication skills in English including listening, oral, written, and clarity
  • ability to react effectively in high stress or emergency situations
  • willingness to learn about building, grounds, and botanical species relevant to the zoo

Job Duties

  • Exemplify Zoo Knoxville core values through interactions with guests and team members
  • follow procedures for care of grounds and facilities
  • perform daily and long-range housekeeping operations including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, restroom cleaning, restocking, litter pickup, graffiti removal, window and sign cleaning
  • carry out periodic tasks such as snow removal, floor stripping, buffing, carpet shampooing, deep cleaning fixtures and surfaces
  • safely operate housekeeping and grounds equipment including trucks, carts, ladders, blowers, sweepers, buffers, polishers, shovels, brooms, hand tools
  • maintain cleanliness, safety, and usability of park grounds, buildings, and facilities
  • assist in installation, setup, and removal of special exhibits and events
  • adhere to safety procedures and complete daily activity reports
  • provide quality customer service to internal and external customers
  • demonstrate ongoing knowledge of advancements in housekeeping
  • comply with governmental and regulatory standards
  • maintain professional appearance and wear standard uniform and nametag
  • perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and leadership team
