Job Requirements

  • Must possess a minimum of 8th grade education
  • Must be at least 18 years old or possess an executed work permit
  • Must be able to understand English
  • Must be capable of independent decision-making and following instructions
  • Must be able to communicate tactfully with residents and personnel
  • Must maintain the care and use of supplies and equipment
  • Must be willing to work harmoniously with other staff
  • Must be able to operate safely with cleaning chemicals and equipment
  • Must be able to follow infection control and safety protocols
  • Must be able to relate to residents with varying levels of maturity and health
  • Must not pose a direct threat to health or safety of others
  • Must be physically capable of moving intermittently and lifting a minimum of 25 pounds
  • Must be willing to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Must be willing to participate in continuing educational programs
  • Must comply with health policies including medical and physical examinations

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to identify and report safety and maintenance issues
  • Experience not required as on-the-job training is provided
  • Must meet general health requirements set by the facility

Job Duties

  • Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • Report all accidents and incidents to supervisor immediately
  • Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services during routine cleaning
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed
  • Participate in in-service training and educational programs
  • Follow established fire safety policies and procedures
  • Use safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy objects
  • Maintain work areas in a clean, safe, and attractive manner
  • Follow proper chemical mixing and handling procedures
  • Report hazardous conditions and missing labels
  • Use personal protective equipment when handling infectious materials
  • Dispose of refuse and infectious wastes according to procedures
  • Ensure adequate supply of housekeeping materials
  • Report maintenance issues such as burnt out lights
  • Assist with lifting heavy equipment
  • Clean and store equipment properly
  • Perform day-to-day housekeeping including cleaning and polishing
  • Empty and sanitize ash trays daily
  • Clean floors, carpets, walls, ceilings, and fixtures
  • Handle isolation cleaning following infection control guidelines
  • Maintain resident confidentiality and respect personal rights
  • Turn in found articles to supervisor
  • Work in all facility areas with intermittent movement
  • Communicate effectively with staff and residents
  • Work flexible hours including weekends and emergency call-back
  • Follow handwashing and sanitation policies
  • Participate in safety and infection control training programs
  • Adhere to established housekeeping policies and procedures
