Job Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age or possess a valid work permit
  • No prior experience required as on-the-job training is provided
  • Must maintain care and use of supplies, equipment, and housekeeping areas
  • Must perform regular inspections for sanitation, order, safety, and performance of duties
  • Must be willing to work in collaboration with personnel
  • Must be able to follow instructions and accept feedback
  • Must be able to handle hazardous substances safely
  • Must not pose a threat to health or safety of others

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum eighth-grade education
  • Ability to understand and communicate in English
  • Ability to make independent decisions and accept constructive criticism
  • Ability to deal tactfully with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies
  • Willingness to work harmoniously with colleagues and handle residents of varying maturity levels
  • Ability to seek and apply new housekeeping methods and principles
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions regarding cleaning compounds
  • Ability to communicate relevant information concerning residents

Job Duties

  • Ensure that work/cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • Report all accidents/incidents to your supervisor on the shift they occur
  • Coordinate daily housekeeping with nursing services in resident and recreational areas
  • Attend departmental and staff meetings as directed
  • Perform tasks according to daily work assignments
  • Maintain adequate housekeeping supplies and notify supervisor of needs
  • Report maintenance issues such as burned out lights
  • Assist others with lifting heavy equipment or supplies as directed
  • Clean and store equipment properly
  • Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions including sanitizing, polishing, and cleaning various facility areas
  • Empty and sanitize ashtrays daily
  • Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, and room heating/cooling units
  • Clean and sanitize bathroom fixtures and remove water marks
  • Clean windows and mirrors in multiple areas
  • Sweep, mop, strip, wax, buff, and disinfect floors ensuring safety measures
  • Vacuum carpets
  • Clean walls and ceilings using various methods
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease, and film from surfaces with appropriate solutions
  • Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators
  • Dispose of waste and properly reline trash receptacles
  • Clean vacant rooms as assigned
  • Ensure work areas and equipment are organized and stored properly
  • Perform isolation cleaning procedures following infection control protocols
  • Discard infectious waste properly
  • Work in various facility areas and manage interruptions
  • Interact with residents, personnel, visitors, and government officials under varied conditions
  • Work beyond normal hours and attend continuing education
  • Maintain safety despite exposure to hazards and infectious materials
  • Work other shifts or be on call during emergencies as needed
  • Communicate effectively with housekeeping and other department personnel
  • Exercise tact and professionalism when dealing with upset or hostile individuals
  • Follow written and oral instructions regarding cleaning compounds and safety procedures
  • Report resident conditions when necessary
  • Maintain safety for all workplace individuals
