Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
  • Previous housekeeping or cleaning experience is a plus but not mandatory
  • Must be able to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 35 pounds
  • Must possess the ability to follow detailed instructions and safety protocols
  • Must maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations
  • Must be willing to participate in ongoing training and educational programs
  • Must meet the facility’s health requirements including possible medical and physical examination
  • Must possess necessary sensory abilities or prosthetics to perform duties safely
  • Must be able to work flexible hours including different shifts as needed
  • Must demonstrate reliability, responsibility, and attention to detail.

Job Duties

  • Ensure that work and cleaning schedules are followed as closely as practical
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor no matter how minor they may be
  • Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services when performing routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas
  • Participate and assist in department meetings, studies, and projects as directed
  • Attend and participate in in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs
  • Follow established fire safety policies and procedures
  • Follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and using equipment and supplies
  • Wear safety equipment when lifting or moving heavy objects
  • Maintain assigned work areas in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner
  • Keep work areas free of hazardous objects
  • Follow proper techniques when mixing chemicals and disinfectants
  • Follow policies governing labels and Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Report hazardous conditions or equipment to your supervisor
  • Ensure infection control and universal precautions during housekeeping
  • Participate in training before exposure to hazardous materials
  • Report missing or improperly labeled hazardous chemicals
  • Use personal protective equipment when handling infectious material
  • Follow proper hand-washing and sanitation procedures
  • Dispose of refuse daily according to sanitation procedures
  • Coordinate isolation procedures with nursing services
  • Maintain adequate housekeeping supplies
  • Report supply needs and equipment malfunctions
  • Assist in lifting heavy equipment as needed
  • Clean and store equipment properly
  • Perform day-to-day cleaning tasks in assigned areas
  • Empty and sanitize ashtrays
  • Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, and heating/cooling units daily
  • Sanitize bathroom fixtures and remove watermarks
  • Clean windows, mirrors, floors, carpets, walls, ceilings, hallways, stairways, and elevators
  • Remove dirt, dust, grease from surfaces
  • Turn in found articles to supervisor
  • Work all areas of the facility
  • Communicate with housekeeping and other personnel
  • Work various shifts as required
  • Attend continuing education programs.
